Goo Goo Dolls have teamed up with Record Store Day to release Borrowed, an exclusive covers album arriving on November 27 as part of this year’s Record Store Day Black Friday event.
Available for the first time ever, the album gathers the band’s celebrated takes on classic songs by iconic artists including Prince, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and INXS.

The limited edition LP is pressed on Pawnshop Patina coloured vinyl and comes in a standard jacket featuring all-new artwork. It will be available to buy from participating record stores on Black Friday.
Fans who prefer other formats will not have to wait long either. Pre-orders for the CD open on October 16 ahead of its December 4 release, and Borrowed will also land on streaming services that same day.
Across its 14 tracks, Borrowed offers a window into the music that shaped the band. The record opens with INXS’ “Don’t Change”, while Side One closes with Fleetwood Mac’s “I Don’t Want To Know”.
Side Two features Prince’s “Never Take The Place Of Your Man” with fellow Buffalo performer Lance Diamond, a live version of Tom Petty’s “American Girl” and the band’s take on Supertramp’s “Give A Little Bit”.

Away from the record shops, Goo Goo Dolls are also heading home. Following the overwhelming success of last year’s event, the band will play their second annual hometown benefit concerts at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom on November 20 and November 21.
Both shows are in aid of FeedMore WNY, an organisation whose mission is to provide nutritious food and skills training to people across Western New York. Last year’s performances raised $150,000 for the charity.
Once again, 100% of the proceeds from the concerts will be donated to FeedMore WNY. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here and here, while more information on the organisation is available at feedmorewny.org.
The news caps a busy year on the road for the band, who recently completed an extensive run of Summer Tour dates with Neon Trees. The run also included well-received performances at iHeartRadio Festival and Sea.Hear.Now Festival.

Formed in Buffalo, New York in 1986 by John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, Goo Goo Dolls have spent more than three decades quietly breaking records and adding a string of staples to the American songbook.
Along the way, they have sold 15 million records worldwide, earned four GRAMMY nominations and collected nearly a dozen platinum and gold singles. With 15 number one and Top 10 hits to their name, they also hold the all-time radio record for Most Top 10 Singles.
At the heart of that success is “Iris”. Originally released in 1998, the Diamond-certified global hit has sold more than 10 million units and passed 6 billion streams worldwide, with over 1 billion of those coming in 2025 alone after the song went viral.

The track continues to reach new audiences around the world. SZA recently recorded a new version, and it has also been covered by Taylor Swift, Machine Gun Kelly, Phoebe Bridgers, Maggie Rogers and sombr. Earlier this year, “Iris” was nominated for Best Throwback Song at the American Music Awards.
The band’s albums tell a similar story. A Boy Named Goo (1995) has gone 2x Certified Platinum and Dizzy Up The Girl (1998) 5x Certified Platinum, while Gutterflower (2002) and Let Love In (2006) are both Certified Gold.
Something For The Rest Of Us (2010) and Magnetic (2013) both debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, and the band’s latest release, the seven-track Summer Anthem EP, is out now via Warner Records.
Summer Anthem is a precise, hard-hitting project packed with the kind of vivid lyricism that has made Goo Goo Dolls one of the most influential alternative rock groups of all time.
For collectors, though, Borrowed is the one to watch. With the Pawnshop Patina vinyl exclusive to Record Store Day Black Friday, anyone hoping to secure a copy should head to their local participating record store on November 27.
