Swedish melodic rock outfit Dalton have released Playing With Fire, the new single and official video from their forthcoming album Rock Will Never Die, due December 11, 2026 via Frontiers Music Srl.
The track arrives as the band’s first new music in a long stretch: Rock Will Never Die breaks a twelve-year gap since Dalton’s last studio release and arrives forty years after Can’t Stop Loving You Now.

Frontiers approached the group about making a new record; vocalist Bosse Lindmark says the offer was both flattering and challenging.
“We were perfectly happy with our place in the AOR history books, but our fans wanted more – much more,” Lindmark says. “When Frontiers came to us with the opportunity to make a new album, it was flattering but also challenging. We had to ask ourselves some tough questions: can we still do it? Do we still have the chops? The answer became Rock Will Never Die. We wanted to make something that feels relevant today while still being unmistakably Dalton.”
Playing With Fire leans into classic AOR territory – powerful guitars, soaring melodies and hooks built for the chorus. The band framed the lyric around risk and heat rather than caution.
“Some fires are meant to burn. There’s a fine line between passion and danger. And sometimes, crossing that line is exactly what makes life worth living. The song captures the thrill of taking chances, following your instincts and refusing to play it safe.”
They added: “But this is more than just another rock anthem. It’s about that irresistible spark. The moment when you know you’re getting too close to the flames, yet something keeps pulling you in. It’s about keeping the fire alive. Turn it up. Feel the heat.”

New guitarist Moltas Ahs joins Lindmark with long-time members Mats “Dalton” Dahlberg (drums), Anders “Kebbe” Lindmark (bass) and Ola Lindstrom (keyboards). Lindmark describes the record as classic Dalton with heavier guitars – a tougher, more in-your-face sound that still centres melody and hooks.
“Bringing Moltas into the band gave us a huge injection of energy and passion, and the whole band is firing on all eight. Forty years after we released Can’t Stop Loving You Now, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with a new Dalton album.”
Rock Will Never Die is presented as both a celebration of the band’s Scandinavian melodic rock legacy and a statement that the style still has room to move. Eleven tracks run from the title cut through Playing With Fire and on to later-album pieces such as Way Back Home and I Have A Dream.
For listeners who grew up on Scandinavian AOR, the return matters because Dalton never chased trends so much as polished a lane – raspy lead vocals, keyboard lift and guitar hooks designed to stick. Playing With Fire plants that flag again ahead of the full album, while the December 11 street date gives fans a clear runway from the video into Rock Will Never Die.
