Newcastle’s Hannah Robinson is back with her most visceral release to date, ‘Ruining The Moment’.

Out Friday 20th March, is a gut-punching grunge anthem that dives headfirst into the silent panic behind a composed exterior – and it doesn’t let up.

Robinson has been steadily carving out a reputation as one of the North East’s most compelling emerging voices in the dreamgaze and alt-rock space.

With a sound built around ethereal vocals, distortion-soaked guitars, and rich atmospheric textures, her music occupies that intoxicating space between the dreamy and the devastating.

Hannah Robinson writes about anxiety, people-pleasing, emotional uncertainty, and the quiet, ongoing process of figuring out who you are – and ‘Ruining The Moment’ channels all of that into something rawer and more explosive than anything she’s released before.

Channelling the spirit of 90s grunge icons – Nirvana, Hole, Soundgarden – the track fuses tortured vocals with eerie, slow-burn guitars that coil and tighten before erupting into a chorus that screams everything you can’t bring yourself to say out loud.

Think Courtney Love crashing a Coach Party rehearsal. It’s laced with guilt, shame, and inner frustration, and it wears every bit of that on its sleeve. For fans of Coach Party, Softcult, and New Dad, this one will hit somewhere uncomfortably familiar.

The song was born from a real and deeply personal experience. Robinson explains: “A few years back, I played a gig thinking it’d be good fun, until I completely lost control. I felt like a stranger in my own body, holding in a panic attack through the whole set. The second I got off stage, I broke down. It felt like I’d ruined everything, especially in front of a crowd of people I’d never met.”

That sense of dislocation – of performing composure while quietly falling apart – sits right at the heart of the track. “I wrote ‘Ruining The Moment’ to scream about how your own mind can turn on you when you need it most,” she continues. “I looked calm, but inside I was falling apart. I hope this song reaches the people who know that feeling too well.”

It’s a sentiment that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt like a stranger in their own skin, and Robinson captures it with a level of emotional precision that goes well beyond straightforward genre exercise. This isn’t just a nod to 90s alt-rock – it’s a song that earns its intensity, because every note of it is true.

The response from the industry has reflected as much. Charlie Ashcroft on Amazing Radio called her music “absolute gems”, while Shakk on BBC Introducing declared that Robinson is “absolutely owning it right now.” Radio X’s John Kennedy praised her sound as “excellent”, and Fresh On The Net noted that her work demonstrates “a level of musical sophistication and fluidity that requires a special degree of musicianship.”

Additional support has come from Nels Hylton on BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing North East, Clout Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, Sirius XM, and NARC, among others.

Beyond the studio, Hannah Robinson has proven herself just as formidable on stage, with festival appearances at Isle of Wight, The Great Escape, and Y Not Festival already on her CV – no small feat for an emerging artist still in the earlier stages of building her profile.

‘Ruining The Moment’ is out Friday 20th March. If this is the direction Hannah Robinson is heading, the North East should be paying very close attention.
