Tony Iommi Unveils New Single ‘Stormwatcher’ From Upcoming Album From The Dark

Tony Iommi has released ‘Stormwatcher’, the brand new single and video from his forthcoming solo album From The Dark, which arrives on 23 October 2026 via BMG.

Built on a signature riff from the man who was the driving musical force behind Black Sabbath’s garlanded career, the track is the latest taste of a record that sees the legendary guitarist leading a new band.

‘Stormwatcher’ has a maritime theme, telling the story of a ship caught in a storm. It arrives with a dramatic animated video that brings the lyrics and imagery of vocalist Jørn Lande to life.

Lande says the song “channels something from within, something real,” with lyrics that tell a powerful story about struggles and sorrow as life voyages from birth to death, and beyond.

“We are the captain of our own vessel, a ship crashing through unknown and sometimes challenging waters, always navigating forward, steering steady through every storm, driven by dreams of new horizons and longing for something new,” he explains.

The single captures the dark atmospheres and yearning passions that run through From The Dark. Lande features across the whole album and shares writing credits on every song, with bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil completing the line-up.

The album was co-produced by Tony Iommi and Mike Exeter, his long-time creative partner, co-writer, producer and audio engineer, and sits proudly within the impressive Iommi catalogue.

From The Dark features eight tracks, with two bonus songs added to the deluxe CD edition. The tracklist is:

The album will be available in several deluxe vinyl and CD formats. The double LP edition is pressed in four colours, each available from different retailers, and is cut at 45rpm across two discs for optimum dynamic range.

Its deluxe gatefold package is premium black card with a die cut of Tony’s signature cross. Beneath it sits a suitably dark and detailed illustrative journey across the album, partly visible through the die cut, with the full image revealed as the inner sleeve is drawn out.

Tony Iommi is widely regarded as one of the most influential guitarists in modern music. As the founding member and primary composer of Black Sabbath, he is credited with helping create the sound and vocabulary of heavy metal.

Formed with Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, Black Sabbath released pioneering albums throughout the 1970s and became one of the most culturally significant British exports of the era.

That sound owes much to an industrial accident in Iommi’s youth that cost him the tips of two fingers. Rather than ending his career, it led him to develop a distinctive playing style and the darker, heavier guitar tone that defined Black Sabbath’s music.

Across his six-decade career, Iommi has continued to record, perform and collaborate internationally. He worked extensively with the late Ronnie James Dio, released acclaimed solo material, and reunited with the original Black Sabbath line-up for the chart-topping 2013 album 13.

That reunion was followed by the global farewell tour The End, which played to 1.6 million fans between 2016 and 2017.

In recent years, his work has expanded into broader cultural spheres. In 2023 he collaborated with the Birmingham Royal Ballet on Black Sabbath – The Ballet, a groundbreaking production based on his early compositions.

In 2025, Black Sabbath headlined the monumental Back To The Beginning show in Birmingham, revisiting the band’s origins and bidding a poignant farewell to fans just a few weeks before the death of Ozzy Osbourne.

Iommi’s contributions have been recognised with multiple Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He has also received a doctorate from Coventry University, a Lord Mayor’s Award and the Freedom of the City of Birmingham, and in June 2026 he was awarded an MBE.

He also continues to give back to his home city, recently launching the Tony Iommi Scholarship at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to support young Birmingham musicians.

With ‘Stormwatcher’ out now and From The Dark due on 23 October, the next chapter of Tony Iommi’s remarkable story is only just getting started.
