Canadian melodic rock artist Mason is set to release his third studio album, Edge Of Destruction, on September 25 through Eonian Records.

The announcement caps two remarkably fast-moving years for Mason, who has built a loyal following in the international AOR and melodic rock community since his 2024 debut.

Edge Of Destruction is the third chapter in the post-apocalyptic story Mason began with his debut, I Can’t Wait, and continued on 2025’s Seconds To Impact. Across eleven songs and an instrumental, Mason moves between hard-driving melodic rock, mid-tempo AOR and sweeping ballads, with a renewed focus on songwriting, arrangement and production.

Ahead of the album, Mason has already released the single This Thing Called Love, featuring backing vocals from FM’s Steve Overland. The track is out now and can be streamed on YouTube, with the full album available to preorder via DistroKid ahead of its September release.

Speaking about the new record, Mason said the sessions for Edge Of Destruction were the most fun and creative period the project has experienced in the past year of writing and recording. He explained that the album’s title continues the post-apocalyptic story established on I Can’t Wait and Seconds To Impact, and that the band explored far more ideas than on previous records while pushing to expand their sound during the song-development stage.

That expansion included bringing in two tracks from keyboardist Peter Penhallow’s band Timmy/Eye, “Here I Am” and the bonus track “Eye For An Eye”, alongside John McAfee’s “This Thing Called Love”.

Mason said these outside contributions have become some of the most important songs on the album, complementing the band’s own sound and musical style extremely well.

Edge Of Destruction also brings back many of the musicians who shaped Mason’s first two albums. John McAfee (The Affair, Big Game), Rick Mead (Syre, Helix, Platinum Overdose), Nilver Perez (The Revlin Project) and Sooraj K (Snarm) all return to the fold, joined this time by AOR vocalist and songwriter Steve Overland of FM, Lonerider, Wildlife and Kings Of Mercia, who lends backing vocals to This Thing Called Love.

Bryan Hughes, known for his work with Beau Geste, Bryan Hughes Group and Devay, helped produce the album and performed guitar, bass and keyboards on the track “Tomorrow Never Comes”. Jeff Pilson, best known for his work with Dokken, War & Peace and Foreigner, plays bass on the album opener “Here I Am”, adding extra punch to Mason’s most propulsive track to date.

The guest list continues with Lukky S of Timson AOR, Aki Bouzid, Mike Bozzo, Gino Braun of Rotten Rose, Dylan Haines of Bryan Hughes Group, Eric Castiglia and several others, all contributing additional guitars, solos, bass lines and backing vocals throughout the record.

Mason has said the sheer number of talented musicians involved made Edge Of Destruction an especially special project to bring together.

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1988, Mason came of age at a time when the wider musical landscape was moving rapidly away from the sounds that fascinated him most.

While rap, hip-hop, punk and post-grunge dominated much of the late 1990s and early 2000s, Mason found himself drawn instead to the melodic hard rock, arena-sized choruses and polished AOR of the late 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. For Mason, it was never nostalgia for its own sake. It was instinct.

Mason’s breakthrough arrived in 2024 with his debut album, I Can’t Wait, released through Lions Pride Music. The record introduced a songwriter with an unapologetic affection for classic AOR, but with enough personality to make the formula his own. Songs including “One Life”, “I Can’t Wait” and “My Desire” emerged as standouts, and the album drew enthusiastic reviews from outlets including Fireworks Magazine, ViriAOR and Rockposer.

In Germany, Rock It! reviewer Jörg Bonszkowski ranked I Can’t Wait among his Top 10 albums of 2024, placing Mason’s debut at number six. For Mason, that first record established the blueprint. The next album would expand on it considerably.

In 2025, Mason signed to Eonian Records for his sophomore release, Seconds To Impact, a record that marked a noticeable leap forward in songwriting, performance and production. Led by the July 2025 single “All I Ever Wanted” and followed by “Hard To Tame” and “Waiting For You”, the album broadened Mason’s profile within the international melodic rock and AOR community.

Seconds To Impact balanced the unmistakable DNA of classic AOR with a more contemporary edge, built around muscular guitars, polished keyboards, memorable choruses and Mason’s clear, melodic vocals. Now, with Edge Of Destruction, Mason is pushing that formula further still. This is not an artist abandoning what worked. It is Mason making everything bigger.

The hooks on Edge Of Destruction remain immediate, but the scope has widened considerably. The guitars are still big, the keyboards still shimmer, and the choruses still arrive with every intention of staying in listeners’ heads long after the record stops spinning. By this third album, Mason no longer sounds like an artist still searching for his identity. He sounds like one who has found it.
