HARDY has released “Man In The Box”, an eight-minute, multi-genre epic that the country star describes as “the bravest, or at least the most creative, thing that I’ve done so far.”
The track opens the next chapter of a career that has already made him one of the biggest names in modern country music.

“Man In The Box” is a story song built in four distinct movements. It opens peacefully and closes prayerfully, travelling through charged-up country, buzzsaw grunge, acoustic singer-songwriter moments and swaggering soul along the way.
Together, those sections sketch out the many sides of HARDY’s artistry and the wide range of influences that feed into his music. It is a long way from a standard radio single, and that is very much the point.
HARDY co-produced the track with David Garcia, and the pair wrote it alongside Chase McGill and Hunter Phelps.
“I’m very proud of this song,” HARDY says. “It’s by far, I think, the bravest, or at least the most creative, thing that I’ve done so far. Be prepared, it’s very different – it’s very long, and it’s a journey.”
He sees the song as the start of something new. “I’m stepping into a new phase of my career sonically, and this is a perfect representation of it,” he continues. “I like to see if people can figure out what it’s about – it’s a little cryptic, and a little different than what I usually do. So, check it out. Hold on.”
The release fits a reputation HARDY has built as one of Nashville’s more unpredictable talents. Rolling Stone has called him “a Nashville wildcard”, while The New Yorker has described him as “a high concept craftsman”.
Billboard has gone further, calling him one of Nashville’s most prolific and versatile voices, a writer and performer who is just as comfortable with a twangy country anthem as a bone-rattling rock song. “Man In The Box” squeezes both of those sides, and plenty more, into a single track.
HARDY celebrates the new release with a big homecoming show tonight (2 October), headlining Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Mississippi for One Night In Starkville. Fans can expect a slate of surprises and activations on the night, with TRIPPP and Will Terry opening.

For HARDY, it is a fitting way to mark the release of such an ambitious song, on home turf in his native Mississippi.
Later this month he will headline two nights at The Truth, a brand new venue in Nashville, for his HARDY Halloween celebrations on 29 and 30 October.
His 2027 calendar is already filling up too. HARDY is confirmed for Crash My Playa in Riviera Cancún, Mexico in January, followed by Stagecoach in California in April and a summer of festival dates across the US and Canada, ending at the 87th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota in August.
Raised in Philadelphia, Mississippi, HARDY has made his name at the crossroads of country and rock. His latest album, COUNTRY! COUNTRY!, doubled down on that sound with 20 hard-charging original songs.
The record pushed his career streams past 8 billion. It was followed by current Top 20 radio single “McArthur”, a generation-spanning story song that HARDY wrote with Tim McGraw, Eric Church and Morgan Wallen.

Away from his own records, HARDY is one of the most in-demand songwriters in Nashville. He has written 22 No. 1 singles globally, among hundreds of cuts for artists including Morgan Wallen, Ella Langley, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bentley and Florida Georgia Line.
He has six No. 1s of his own: “Favorite Country Song”, “TRUCK BED”, “Wait In The Truck” with Lainey Wilson, “ONE BEER” with Lauren Alaina and Devin Dawson, “Beers On Me” with Dierks Bentley and BRELAND, and rock radio chart-topper “JACK”.
His trophy cabinet includes five ACM Awards, two CMA Awards, three CMA Triple Play Awards and three AIMP Songwriter of the Year titles, and he was named BMI Country Songwriter of the Year in 2022.
HARDY has also just wrapped his headlining COUNTRY! COUNTRY! TOUR!, which played to around 400,000 fans in arenas and amphitheatres across North America. With “Man In The Box” now out, he heads into his next phase with plenty of momentum.
