After nearly a decade of silence, Dutch progressive alternative rock outfit A Liquid Landscape are back.

The band have announced their third full-length album, Rogue Planet, set for digital release on 28th May 2026, followed by vinyl and CD on 5th June 2026 via Glassville Music.

It is a return that feels both long overdue and, given the state of the world, perfectly timed.

Rogue Planet builds on the atmospheric, guitar-driven art rock that defined A Liquid Landscape’s earlier work, while pushing into heavier territory and more direct emotional expression. The band draw on the sound of late ’90s and early 2000s alternative rock, but never at the expense of the depth and atmosphere their listeners will remember.

Guitarist Niels van Dam was candid about the gap between records. “Life started happening, you know. The pitter-patter of little feet. And then Covid hit. But we always kept working on new songs. And eventually when there was enough material, and we started playing it together in a room, it became obvious that this band was not done yet.”

The album’s title comes from an astronomical concept – a rogue planet being a celestial body that has broken free of its orbit and drifts, unbound, through space. Vocalist and guitarist Fons Herder heard the term during a National Geographic special and it stayed with him.

“It had something so desolate, so fragile and, yet, dangerous and potentially hostile,” Herder explains. “It kept lingering and when the time came to finish the lyrics I started using it as a metaphor for the state of the world – our society as it is today.”

It is a metaphor that lands. Rogue Planet sits with the paradox of a world more connected than ever, yet riddled with isolation and drift. The record does not offer easy answers. Instead, outfit A Liquid Landscape craft something that holds disillusionment and fragile hope in the same breath – a warning with a faint light still burning inside it.

The first single, Few and Far Between (Part I), is out now and available to stream and watch on YouTube. Herder traces the track back to 2016, when the band first started sketching it out. The opening line, he admits, began as a joke.

“‘By and by, about time to look alive.’ I thought it would be funny to start an album like that, after a few year gap between releases. Later the whole thing got much darker and turned into a sort of wake-up call for impending doom. Ironically, both the joke and the actual lyrics only got more relevant over time.”

The video was made in collaboration with Thomas de Vries and Lex Vesseur, and does a fine job of capturing the mood of a band finally stepping back into the light after years away. Vinyl and CD editions of Rogue Planet are available for pre-order now via The Bandwagon.

To mark the release, outfit A Liquid Landscape will play two special co-headline shows alongside Kristoffer Gildenlöw – the former Pain of Salvation bassist and respected solo artist. Both shows fall on the vinyl and CD release date weekend.

On 5th June, the band play Oosterpoort SPOT in Groningen, followed by Poppodium Boerderij in Zoetermeer on 6th June. Tickets are available now via the respective venue websites.

The band’s lineup for the album and shows is Fons Herder on vocals and guitar, Niels van Dam on lead guitar, Robert van Dam on bass, and Coen Speelman on drums.

A Liquid Landscape have been a fixture of the progressive and alternative rock underground since their debut.

Their back catalogue includes the Long Lost Traveler EP from 2009, their debut full-length Nightingale Express in 2012, second album The Largest Fire Known To Man in 2014, and the Stories Left Untold EP in 2016.

Over the years, outfit A Liquid Landscape have shared stages with some of the genre’s most respected names, including Thrice, Anathema, Marillion, Karnivool, Riverside, Soen, The Pineapple Thief, Crippled Black Phoenix, and Iamthemorning.

Rogue Planet is not simply a comeback record. For outfit A Liquid Landscape, it reads as a statement of intent – a band that took their time, waited until the material was right, and returned with something that speaks directly to the anxious, uncertain mood of the mid-2020s.

Whether you are a long-standing fan or coming to the band fresh, this is a good moment to pay attention.

Rogue Planet is released digitally on 28th May 2026, with vinyl and CD following on 5th June 2026 via Glassville Music and is available to pre-order HERE
