The Guzzlers Raise A Glass To St. Patrick’s Day With Debut Single 20 Pints To Cherbourg

The Guzzlers

Liverpool’s vibrant music scene has a rowdy new addition this St. Patrick’s Day as Irish sibling duo The Guzzlers officially unleash their debut single, ‘20 Pints To Cherbourg’.

The track arrives as a spirited anthem for the holiday, marking the first studio offering from brothers Tom and Cian O’Dowd since they traded Limerick for the banks of the Mersey last summer.

The single is more than just a seasonal floor-filler; it is a semi-autobiographical shanty born from a workplace disaster. The brothers were originally employed to perform Irish folk songs for passengers on the ferry between Dublin and Cherbourg.

However, a particularly chaotic trip involving a few too many pints in French harbours and a narrow escape to make the return sailing led to their swift dismissal—and the inspiration for their first hit.

“We wrote the song after getting fired from a ferry gig for drinking too many pints,” the band explained. “It’s a love letter to bad decisions, late-night sessions, and the kind of stories your mam doesn’t need to know about. Some bands write heartbreak songs, we wrote one about drinking 20 pints. It’s all related to love.”

Since relocating to Liverpool in 2025, the O’Dowds have wasted no time making their presence felt. What started as busking sessions outside the city’s famous Irish bars quickly evolved into appearances at legendary venues like The Cavern Club and The Philharmonic, where they supported local icon Ian Prowse.

Their reputation as a must-see live act was further cemented by a residency at Anfield, providing the pre-match soundtrack for Liverpool FC fans throughout the current season.

To celebrate the release of ’20 Pints To Cherbourg’, the duo has spent the last 20 days embarked on a unique “20 Bars” campaign. Each day, they have performed a pop-up set at a different favourite Liverpool haunt, sharing the journey across social media.

This marathon of performances culminates tonight, 17th March, with a headline show at the iconic Jacaranda Basement.

The single offers a first taste of their forthcoming debut album, Drinking The Dream. Recorded with acclaimed producer Jon Withnall—whose previous credits include Coldplay, Rihanna, and Echo and the Bunnymen—the album promises a collection of autobiographical tales that blend the storytelling traditions of Irish folk with a contemporary, “intoxicating” energy.

While Drinking The Dream isn’t slated for release until this autumn, fans can catch the brothers on the road throughout the year. Following their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, The Guzzlers will join The Highstool Prophets for a string of major UK dates in December, including stops at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the Manchester O2 Ritz.
