Guitarist and band leader Dushan Petrossi says the song deals with a feeling most people will recognise. “‘No Greener Lands’ is a song about something I think we can all relate to: always looking for something better somewhere else, without realizing the value of what we already have,” he explains.

“I wanted to capture that feeling through strong and memorable vocal melodies, which will stick in your head, powerful riffs and an epic atmosphere. It’s a song with a message, but also all the energy and emotion that define Iron Mask for me.”

Crimson Prophecy sees Iron Mask continue in the neoclassical metal style the band are known for. Petrossi, who handles all electric and acoustic guitars as well as backing vocals and keyboards, leads the way, with the album built around majestic arrangements, big melodies, strong riffs and plenty of guitar work.

The record blends classical influences and virtuoso playing with the drive of classic heavy metal, but the focus, according to the band, is firmly on the songs themselves rather than technique for its own sake.

Petrossi says he set out to make a varied record. “With ‘Crimson Prophecy’, I wanted to create an album that feels both powerful and diverse, while staying true to the spirit of Iron Mask,” he says.

“Each song has its own personality, mood and story, but they all share the same passion for melody, epic arrangements, heavy metal with strong choruses and the neoclassical guitar work that has always defined my sound. I really pushed myself creatively on this record, and I feel it’s one of the most varied and exciting albums we’ve made so far.”

The album also marks the return of vocalist Mark Boals behind the microphone. Known for his wide range and his ability to combine power with melody, Boals sings lead throughout the record and has long been one of the best-known voices in neoclassical metal.

Boals first made his name in the 1980s singing with Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, most notably on the 1986 album Trilogy, and has since built a long career across the melodic and neoclassical metal scene.

Iron Mask were formed by Petrossi in the early 2000s, and the band have built a steady catalogue of albums rooted in the same blend of shred guitar, symphonic touches and traditional heavy metal that runs through the new record.

From the intricate guitar passages to the big choruses, the band say Crimson Prophecy is a record where the playing never gets in the way of the songs. They see it as an album that feels both timeless and current, celebrating the grandeur and passion of neoclassical metal, and as the start of a new chapter for Iron Mask.

The cover artwork reflects that sense of drama, with a masked, caped figure rising from a coffin against a blood-red sky, a fitting image for an album steeped in the epic side of heavy metal.

Joining Petrossi and Boals on Crimson Prophecy are Vassili Moltchanov on bass, Franky De Mangelaere on keyboards and Kjell De Raes on drums.

The album runs to 11 tracks, opening with “God Unbless You” and closing with the title track, with “No Greener Lands” sitting second in the running order.

Crimson Prophecy is out on 29th January 2027 via Frontiers Music Srl and can be pre-ordered here.
