Melbourne alternative garage rock trio Desert Fire have arrived with a statement of intent. The band’s debut single, “R.A.D.I.O.”, is out now across all major streaming platforms, accompanied by an official music video that captures exactly the kind of raw, unpolished energy the track delivers.

For a debut release, Desert Fire have come in remarkably assured. “R.A.D.I.O.” is a short, sharp introduction – fast, direct, and impossible to ignore from its opening seconds.

The track kicks the door in with biting guitars riding over a relentless rhythm section, while the vocal cuts clean through the noise without once losing its grip on the hook. There is no warm-up, no slow build. Desert Fire land on their feet from the first bar.

Sonically, the track sits somewhere between garage rock swagger and raw rock and roll urgency. It is the kind of sound that feels lived-in rather than assembled – music made for volume, sweat, and stages that feel two sizes too small.

In a contemporary rock landscape that can sometimes favour polish over punch, Desert Fire lean the other way entirely.

The lyrics give the track an additional dimension without softening its edges. “R.A.D.I.O.” digs into themes of ambition, image, and expectation, threading a tongue-in-cheek undercurrent beneath the surface aggression.

That friction – between the bravado of the sound and the self-awareness in the writing – is what elevates the track beyond a straightforward guitar rock belter. It hits hard on first listen and lingers well after.

The band themselves have spoken about that balance between impact and depth. “We wanted our first track to land like a punch but still have something simmering underneath,” Desert Fire say. “R.A.D.I.O. felt like the right place to start – it’s got the energy, the hook and the attitude that define Desert Fire.”

Desert Fire is a Melbourne alt-rock trio comprising Stevie Reds on guitar and vocals, Roachy on bass, and Rachie Reds on drums. Loud, direct, and driven equally by melody, groove, and force, the band describe their sound as one built for the stage as much as the speaker. “R.A.D.I.O.” is their opening shot, and by any measure it is a confident one.

The production reflects the band’s commitment to getting the sound right without overcomplicating it. “R.A.D.I.O.” was recorded, mixed, and produced by Ricki Rae at Lighthill Sound Recording in Riddells Creek, Victoria – a setting well-suited to the kind of stripped-back, performance-driven rock Desert Fire trade in.

The mastering was handled by Bill Skibbe at the renowned Third Man Mastering in Detroit, bringing an additional layer of punch and clarity to the final product.

The release has also been given a physical dimension that underscores how seriously Desert Fire are approaching this debut. The single has been pressed as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl at Third Man Pressing – the same pressing plant associated with Jack White’s Third Man Records operation in Nashville.

For a debut release, it is a bold and deliberate move, and one that signals a band thinking beyond the digital stream.

Backing vocals on the track were provided by Jackie Yamada and Ramonda Carrico, adding texture to a recording that already carries more depth than most debut singles dare to attempt.

The accompanying music video for “R.A.D.I.O.” is out now and can be watched on YouTube. With the limited 7-inch vinyl edition available online and at upcoming shows, Desert Fire are clearly building toward a live presence to match the intensity of the record.

For a first release, Desert Fire have set a high bar. “R.A.D.I.O.” is a debut that earns its noise – and one that makes the next move from this Melbourne trio well worth watching.
