The 2027 European leg kicks off in Stockholm on April 26, with support from Wolf Alice, and goes on to visit Paris, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Berlin and Milan. In the UK, U2 will play two nights at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 18 and 19. Dates for Spain will be announced soon.

The first run of Latin American shows sold out instantly, and extra dates have now been added in Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires due to popular demand. North American dates for 2027 are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

The tour arrives alongside Carnaval De Luz, U2’s sixteenth studio album and the band’s first new material in nine years, which will be released on November 13, 2026, through Island Records.

Speaking about the tour, the band said: “‘The Greatest Show on Earth’? Now that’s a throwdown. It’s a dare, to ourselves as much as anyone, to try and have the best night of anybody’s life. A bit of showman, a bit of shaman, a riot of colour, unreasonable guitar, bass and drums, and tunes you can hold onto. Because if people are gonna show up, we certainly are.”

The new track “The Greatest Show On Earth” was co-written by U2 and Brian Eno and is the third single to be taken from Carnaval De Luz. It tells a story of lovers fighting to keep faith in each other, and in faith itself.

The accompanying video was directed by Anton Corbijn and shot in the Californian desert, and it satirises the band as a religious cult in which the women do all the heavy lifting.

U2 recently celebrated their 50th anniversary on Friday, September 25 with a lunchtime show for students and teachers at their old school, Mount Temple Comprehensive, followed by a surprise performance on Dublin’s Grafton Street. Plans for the tour are already in the works for 2028, and the band are looking ahead to a homecoming in Ireland.

The Edge said: “We can’t say too much about the next leg of The Greatest Show On Earth, we’re still figuring it out, but what we can say is, we’ll be wrapping it up in Ireland. There’s nowhere else we’d want to be for that party.”

The tour marks U2’s return to stadiums for the first time since they wrapped The Joshua Tree Tour at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on December 15, 2019, the final stop on a run that saw them play to almost three million fans.

Since then the band have staged a sold out run of 40 shows at Sphere in Las Vegas. The new tour promises a spectacle built around human connection and intimacy on a grand scale, with a set list drawn from right across the band’s catalogue.

Produced by Jacknife Lee, Carnaval De Luz explores themes of spirituality, friendship, freedom and endurance in the face of dark, encroaching forces. Sonically it echoes the band’s most experimental work alongside tightly written songs such as “The Greatest Show On Earth”, “Glorify” and “Midnight Sunshine”, as well as the two and a half minute surf punk homage “Silencio”.

The album’s roots lie in U2’s two surprise six track EPs from early 2026, Days Of Ash and Easter Lily, which were recorded during the same creative period. The song connecting the album and the EPs is the closing track, “Torn”, a duet with the late Dolly Parton in what turned out to be her last recorded vocal performance. Co-written by U2, Parton and Johnny McDaid, it is a tender country song about broken family ties.

The album also features Brian Eno, who co-wrote and played synthesizers on “Go (Carnaval De Luz)”, “The Greatest Show On Earth” and “Can’t Stop Us Now”, Martin Garrix, who co-wrote “Glorify”, and Daniel Lanois, who plays pedal steel on “Torn”. Ryan Tedder provided additional production on “Silencio”.
